Don't you just love the stories/tales we were told as children to keep the spirit of Christmas alive & fascinating. I remember all nestled under those mounds of quilts snuggled in bed, DETERMINED not to fall asleep to hear those hooves upon that roof ... the anticipation was overwhelming.
Mother used to make the BEST homemade peanut butter fudge ... it took us a VERY long time beating that fudge by hand to cool it down, we 5 kids took turns helping her ... we'd sit it in a pan of cold water to help cool it down. We'd scrape that pan dry of any tad of fudge on the edges.
This was the gift Mother made for family & friends, since we didn't have a lot of money ... people raved over that creamy mouth watering fudge. When the fudge was set, Mother would cut it up, wrap it & then store it away until time to distribute it. Our lives were short of threatened if we got into it.
Welllllllll! This was a challenge to find where she hid it ... & one year in particularly after tearing the house apart we found it hidden in her clothes closet ... Oh! the delicious feast we had!! Nearly sick from eating so much of it ... & barely could sit for the next few days.
Needless to say, after that we were satisfied yearly with the wee bit she saved out for us & the scrapings from the pan.
What memory do you have of being mischievous during the holidays .....
