~ Love Is ... It's That Time of Year Memories ~
My Mother made the flakiest melt in your mouth pie crusts. The left over dough she would give we 5 kids to make brown sugar tarts.
My brother & I were sharing memories recently of that fabulous aroma drifting through the house. Mother only used Gravenstein apples as they have a sweet & sour flavor. They are an old apple hard to find nowadays, tho similar to the Honey Crisps. Mercy! we could hardly wait for that pie to be cut, warm, then sprinkling sugar on that crust.
One year Mother had made all kinds of pies for some of her clients & for our holiday celebration. A bunch of the neighbor kids were in the house running round & round. A couple of friends came with our neighbor girl & one of them stuck her finger in a pie ... we all said 'you're going to get in trouble'. Well, they waltzed out of the house without a care in the world.
And, THEN Mother came in & saw that finger hole in that pie! Good golly, Miss Molly! We 5 took a rap of heat for that stunt & the culprit got away.
